April Foo Piano Mu

March 12, 2007 7:39 pm

One of my chief crime partners in SL music (CC Chapman/Cleon Goff) is hooking up Nashville podsafe (popular among podcasters and pre-cleared for podcast play) musician Matthew Ebel(SL:Hali Heron) to play at Dirty U-turn on upcoming April Fools Day-for real! The Foo in poster above refers too CC’s film company.

Virtual Band’s First Show

2:00 am

The other day I did an event search upon login-lo and behold I was surprised to see the virtual band, billed as a band comprised of 4 members hailing from 4 different countries and linking their streams. Talk about some fresh news. There is a real shortage of bands playing in SL due to various reasons(mostly technical in nature). So I showed up at Crazy Sharks, was greeted by owner Cat Octavia and began to listen.

While not as heavy or as hard as I would have liked (kind of bluesy and clean sounding), they were still musically  proficient, and amazingly played in time together somehow overcoming latency problems of live streaming from 1 US and 3 European locations.

The band is made up of: Ictus Belford(bass and vocals), BlueTom Haller(lead guitar) , Roland Calhern(keyboards) and HammerOn DeVinna(rhythm guitar). I look forward to checking them out again soon after they get some more shows under their belt. Over all a commendable 1st effort.

Sounds Good/Good Sounds

Need I say more? Ok-Grade “A” Lineup. Charles Bristol is an 80 plus year old blues singer  that is singing from his rich life experience. Nance has one big-sexy  voice and engages audience with musical banter during songs , and Ronnie-I’ll be damned if he doesn’t sound almost exactly like that guy (Marty Balin) from Jefferson Starship.

Caffeine and Cylindrian, Hold the Sugar.

Click here for SLURL TP Link

If you have not attended one of Cyl’s true live events (Simulcast from live performance in RL) then you truly don’t know what you’ve been missing. As good as she is live in SL it doesn’t capture the charisma and energy of her true live performance . She has a bunch of good new songs to share- so click the link and poof over, ya hear :)

Podsafe Means…

March 4, 2007 11:13 pm

Well this came up at the Sirens of SL Show the other night. Why am I bothering to post on this? Well I know many SL performing musicians read this blog and are confused/curious on what “podsafe”means and how it applies to them.

First of all “podsafe” is in fact one of those web 2.0 “made-up” words. Here is part of the wikipedia definition :
Podsafe is a term created in the podcasting community to refer to any work which, through its licensing, specifically allows the use of the work in podcasting, regardless of restrictions the same work might have in other realms. For example, a song may be legal to use in podcasts, but may need to be purchased or have royalties paid for over-the-air radio use, television use, and possibly even personal use.

Some options that should be considered are Creative Commons (non-profit org) licensing (they offer a variety of licenses with different restrictions) for your work(mp3 files) on your site. You can also provide some of your music to Podsafe Music Network, a business that offers your music to a large number of podcasters for play on their podcasts. In both cases you as composer maintain control of your work.

Please consider these tools for your protection and enhancing your exposure in the real and virtual worlds.

Jeremy Spoke in….

10:15 pm

Got to visit Jeremy Flagstaff’s spiffy office on Dirty. It is the nerve-center (kinda looks it too,eh?) for the Second Life Podcast. Nice talking with him about everything but podcasting. Could it be he is like me-doesn’t like to talk about them just doing them?

We did talk about lot of other stuff including his excitement over SL live music, work at the Electric Sheep, etc. Yes Jeremy-I’d love a raincheck good for the next Sheep shindig-:)

Shout-outs to my Homies!

4:08 pm

Sup Foxy-from the old ‘hood girl… really enjoyed these recent shows: Matthew Perreault from Ft. Worth MacHenry’s live to Club Oi on 3/2 and then the Sirens of SL show at Dirty U-Turn on 3/3. First time hearing Foxyflwr Cure live-this lady packs guns and guitar(piano too, don’t know where she hides that) and has lots of attitude. Cylindrian Rutabaga and Juel Resistance were their usual great selves, with the addition of numerous great new songs by each. Make sure to check these folks out-they are some of the best singer-song writers around for your SL live music experience.
